Larian Studios Unveil a Fresh Divinity, Labeling it Their Largest RPG Yet

The anticipation about the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, especially after host Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic image of a desert monolith. The mystery has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is developing a completely new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer featuring striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very unleashing of hell.

Not the Expected Sequel

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian warned that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not on the cards right now.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This phrasing hints that the team could be crafting a real-time experience instead of another turn-based title. Currently, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it pioneered the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, player agency, and complex character building—qualities that subsequently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is familiar fare, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities you can achieve with a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.

The series is also notoriously permissive, allowing players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be solved in multiple ways, frequently in unexpected fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you remembered something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.

More to Come

It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, players can get ready for another adventure in this legendary franchise.
